RDEG Renewable Energy Projects

Anacacho Wind Farm

RD Energy Group, LLC, was the initial developer of the Anacacho Wind Farm, a 100-MW wind project in operation in Kinney County, Texas. E.On Climate and Renewables acquired the site from RDEG and constructed the project using 1.8 MW Vestas wind turbines.

Tahoka Wind Project

RDEG was the initial developer of the 300 MW Tahoka Wind Project that was completed in 2019. It consists of 120 GE Wind Energy 2.5 MW turbines. The project was constructed, owned, and operated by Lincoln Clean Energy (now part of Ørsted) which acquired the project development rights from RDEG in 2016.

Sage Draw Wind Project

RDEG was the initial developer of the 338 MW Sage Draw Wind Project that was completed in 2020. It consists of 120 GE Wind Energy 2.82 MW turbines. The project was constructed, owned, and operated by Ørsted which acquired the project development rights from RDEG in 2016.

Staked Plains Energy Complex Phase III

RDEG sold the development rights to this potential 200 to 300 MW wind project in Garza County, Texas to Lincoln Clean Energy (now part of Ørsted) in 2016.

Windpiper/Sunpiper Projects

RDEG is continuing on development of a potential multiphase wind and/or solar energy project covering large areas of Jones, Fisher, and Stonewall Counties of Texas, and currently has over 20,000 acres under lease.

Wind and Solar Energy Projects

  • Wind and Solar Site in West Central Texas

This RDEG site is located within the ERCOT region surrounding a 345 kV CREZ line and substation. Additional 345 kV and 138 kV lines are located near to this site. Several thousand acres of property have been leased, and landowners of about 50,000 acres have already expressed interest. Several years of wind data are available from the east end of the project area. The standard lease agreement allows either wind or solar energy development, although landowners are able to request “wind-only” leases.

  • Wind and Solar Site in West Central Texas

RDEG has a second large site under early stages of development within the ERCOT region, also surrounding a 345 kV CREZ line. A 138 kV line also crosses this site. Owners of about 40,000 acres of land are currently reviewing lease proposals.

  • Wind and Solar Site in Northwest Texas

This site has several years of wind data available from two meteorological towers. Several leases are currently being renewed, while new leases expanding the target area are being pursued. The target area includes an ERCOT CREZ station, two ERCOT 345 kV lines, and an SPP 345 kV line. An environmental fatal flaw analysis of the site has been performed and is available for review.

  • Wind and Solar Site in South Texas

This site includes access to a new ERCOT 138 kV transmission line and substation. It is located near an existing wind farm developed by RDEG. Several landowners have expressed interest in the project and are currently reviewing lease offers.

Solar Energy Projects

  • Solar Energy Site in Northwest Texas

This project area includes an ERCOT 138 kV line and an ERCOT 69 kV line, and is located within a few miles of an ERCOT 345 kV CREZ line. A total of 2,000 acres are under lease, with an additional 2,000 acres being targeted.

  • Solar Energy Site in West Texas

This project area includes an ERCOT 138 kV line and substation. One tract is under lease and additional landowners are considering lease offers.

  • Solar Energy Site in West Texas

This project area includes an ERCOT 138 kV line, an ERCOT 69 kV line, while two ERCOT 345kV lines and a CREZ station are located within 8 miles of the site. A total of 2,000 acres are being targeted for lease.

Project Development Experience Prior to Formation of RDEG

Richard Walker, President of RDEG, has been directly involved in the development of several other existing wind farms in Texas and Oklahoma, as well as a solar research facility that was constructed near Fort Davis, Texas.

Wind Energy Projects

  • 6-MW Fort Davis Wind Farm

First utility-scale wind project constructed in Texas.

  • 75-MW Southwest Mesa Wind Farm

First wind farm in the area of McCamey, Texas, where several additional wind energy projects were subsequently constructed.

  • 150-MW Trent Mesa Wind Farm

First wind farm in the area near Abilene and Sweetwater, Texas, an area now including several thousand MW of wind generation.

  • 101-MW South Trent Wind Farm

A site initially developed by Mr. Walker while working for American Electric Power that was subsequently sold to Pattern Energy.

  • Blue Canyon Wind Farm

Several phases of this project were initially developed by Mr. Walker while working for American Electric Power, and were subsequently sold to Horizon Wind Energy (now EDP Renewables).

  • 782-MW Roscoe Wind Farm

Mr. Walker was the lead developer on all four phases of the Roscoe Wind Farm, located near Sweetwater, Texas. This was the world’s largest wind energy project from 2008 to 2011.
